Welcome! My name is Rachel Sloetjes, mommy to Evelyn and Ellie, Speech-Language Pathologist, and founder of Thrive Speech & Language. My ultimate goal is to bring services closer to you so that you can thrive.
My educational journey started at Western University, where I received a Bachelor of Arts with an Honours Specialization in Psychology and a Minor in Sociology. In 2018, I graduated from the University of Toronto with a Master’s of Health Science in Speech-Language Pathology. I am registered with the College of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of Ontario (CASLPO), a member of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology Canada (SAC), and a licensed provider on HCAI. I am committed to attending annual conferences and professional development in areas of interest. The following is a list of additional certifications I have completed:
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy Foundations
The Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBS Imp)
Supported Conversation for Adults with Aphasia Workshop
Introduction to PROMPT
Hanen: It Takes Two to Talk
Clinical Short Course in Cognitive-Communication Disorders Level 1 & 2
Over the years, I have worked in both private practice and hospitals. Most recently at Parkwood Institute, where I first worked with adults who have experienced brain and spinal cord injuries, and then with Veterans. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of treating clients from birth to age 104.
My therapy approach is collaborative, evidence-based, and family-centred. I aim to make sessions engaging and tailored to each client’s individual goals.
Outside the clinic, I love spending time with my family, reading, completing puzzles, and exploring local businesses and restaurants.
I’d love to support you on your communication journey—feel free to get in touch and find out how we can work together.
