Welcome to Thrive Speech & Language
Evidence-based, family-focused services
Welcome! My name is Rachel Sloetjes, mommy to Evelyn and Ellie, Speech-Language Pathologist, and founder of Thrive Speech & Language. My ultimate goal is to bring services closer to come so that you can thrive.
My educational journey started at Western University where I received a Bachelors of Arts with an Honours Specialization in Psychology and Minor in Sociology. Subsequently, I graduated from University of Toronto with a Masters of Health Science in Speech-Language Pathology in 2018. I am registered and in good standing with the College of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of Ontario (CASLPO), a member with Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology Canada (SAC), and is a licensed-provider on Ontario's HCAI system allowing me to work with clients injured in motor vehicle collisions. I am committed to attending annual conferences and professional development in areas of interest. The following is a list of additional certifications I have completed below:
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy Foundations
The Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBS Imp)
Supported Conversation for Adults with Aphasia Workshop
Introduction to PROMPT
Hanen: It Takes Two to Talk
Clinical Short Course in Cognitive-Communication Disorders Level 1 & 2
I have worked in both private practice and hospitals. Most recently at Parkwood Institute where I first worked with adults who have experienced brain and spinal cord injuries, then with veterans. Over the years I have had clients as young as 15 months and as old as 104.
My therapy approach is collaborative, evidence-based, and family-centered. I aim to make sessions engaging and tailored to each client’s individual goals.
Outside the clinic, I love spending time with my family, reading, completing puzzles, and exploring local businesses and restaurants.
I’d love to support you on your communication journey—feel free to get in touch to see how work together.
